ClearForce Adds Former Deputy Secretary of the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, James “Jim” Byrne, to its Advisory Board

VIENNA, VA. –– APRIL 19, 2020 –– ClearForce, a global technology leader in the early and ongoing discovery of employee risk, announced today the addition of The Honorable James “Jim” Byrne to its advisory board.

Byrne has over 25 years of experience in the public sector and served from August 2017 to February 2020 as General Counsel and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. There, Byrne served as the chief operating officer and successfully led efforts like the MISSION Act and electronic health records modernization, which both aim to increase healthcare accessibility for veterans and their caregivers.

Prior to working for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Byrne spent nine years at Lockheed Martin as Associate General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer, while also serving on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Board and the International Association of Privacy Professionals Board of Directors. He has also served as a forward deployed Marine Corps Infantry Officer and a U.S. Department of Justice international narcotics prosecutor.

“Jim’s insights and experiences are a fantastic match for ClearForce,” said Tom Miller, CEO of ClearForce. “Combining his public-sector work with Veterans and his deep knowledge of data privacy and protection, he has quickly become an invaluable advisor to both our company and our customers.”

As part of the board, Byrne will provide insight into the health and wellness changes of our veterans to enable ClearForce to optimize the value proposition of its Resolve platform to better serve the community and continue to build trust.

He will be joining a ClearForce board that includes Gina M. Grosso, retired Air Force Lieutenant General who most recently served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel, and Services – the Air Force’s Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) – and Dr. Keita Franklin, chief clinical officer at Loyal Source. Dr. Franklin formerly served as a Department of Veteran Affairs and Department of Defense senior executive who acted as the principal advisor on suicide prevention, and world-renowned suicide prevention and risk assessment expert Dr. Kelly Posner.

The advisory board compliments ClearForce’s board of directors that includes General James L. Jones, USMC, (Ret.) former National Security Advisory and 32nd Commandant of the Marine Corps; General Michael Hayden, USAF, (Ret.) former Director of the CIA and NSA; Jody Weis, former FBI Special Agent and Chicago PD Superintendent; the Honorable James M. Byrne, former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs; Harry C. Gambill, former CEO of TransUnion; Norm Willox, CEO of Bluewater International and former founder of LexisNexis Risk Solutions and Chief Privacy Officer at LexisNexis, and Thomas L. Blair, former founder/CEO of United Payors and United Providers, Inc.

“It’s imperative that we all do our part to keep an eye out for our Veterans’ well-being, and thanks to companies like ClearForce, there is a way to legally and compliantly monitor for signs of both personal and professional risk,” said Byrne. “I look forward to helping successfully spread that message in this new role.”
